A simple and clear step-by-step guide to making a smooth and creamy decaf latte at home using basic equipment and easy preparation methods.
The Process
Brew the Decaf Espresso (1–2 minutes): Add 18–20 g finely ground decaf coffee into portafilter. Tamp evenly. Extract espresso for 25–30 seconds. You should get 36–40 ml (double shot). If no espresso machine is available, brew very strong decaf coffee using AeroPress or moka pot.
Heat the Milk (2–3 minutes): Pour 180 ml milk into pitcher. Heat milk to 60–65°C (140–150°F). Do not boil the milk. Milk should feel hot but still touchable briefly.
Froth the Milk (30–60 seconds): Goal: smooth microfoam texture. Steam Wand Submerge tip slightly below surface. Add air briefly. Sink wand to create a whirlpool motion. Manual Frothing Shake milk in jar for 15–20 seconds. Microwave for 30 seconds to stabilize foam.
Combine (30 seconds): Pour espresso into warm mug. Add sweetener or flavor if desired. Slowly pour steamed milk. Finish with a thin foam layer (~1 cm).
