Simple and clear guide to making a refreshing iced Americano at home using basic tools, easy steps, and beginner-friendly preparation.
The Process
Brew Espresso: Brew 1–2 shots of espresso using your machine or preferred brewing device. Ideal extraction time is 25–30 seconds to produce balanced flavor. The espresso should appear rich, dark, and slightly creamy on top. If using moka pot or AeroPress, brew a strong concentrated coffee similar to espresso strength.
Add Water First: Pour 120 ml cold water into your glass before adding anything else. This order helps keep the coffee smoother and prevents harsh bitterness. The water acts as a base that balances the espresso immediately.
Add Ice: Fill the glass with ice cubes, about 1 cup. Ice cools the drink quickly and creates the refreshing iced texture expected from an Americano.
Pour Espresso: Slowly pour the espresso over the ice and water. This method creates a layered visual effect and preserves aroma and flavor balance.
Stir & Customize: Stir gently to combine all layers evenly. Add sweetener if desired and adjust flavor according to preference. If the drink tastes strong, add a small amount of extra water.
