Learn how to make peppermint hot tea at home with simple ingredients, clear steps, exact timing, and an instant single serving option.
The Process
Prepare the Peppermint: If you are using fresh peppermint leaves, rinse them gently under clean water to remove dust. Lightly crush or tear the leaves to release natural oils, which improves flavor and aroma.
Boil the Water: Pour 1 cup (240 ml) water into a small saucepan or kettle. Heat until it reaches a full boil. Fresh boiling water helps extract the mint flavor properly.
Add the Leaves: Remove the water from heat once boiling starts. Add 1 tablespoon fresh peppermint leaves or 1 teaspoon dried peppermint leaves into the hot water.
Steep the Tea: Cover the saucepan or mug to trap the steam and essential oils. Let the tea steep for 5–7 minutes. A shorter time gives a lighter taste, and a longer time gives a stronger flavor.
Strain and Serve: Use a tea strainer to pour the tea into your cup. Add honey, sugar, lemon juice, or ginger if desired. Stir well and serve hot.
