Single-shot espresso at home is easy to prepare using simple tools, fresh coffee, and the right timing for a balanced, café-style flavor.
The Process
Heat the Machine: Turn on the espresso machine and allow it to warm completely. Run hot water briefly through the group head to stabilize temperature.
Grind the Coffee: Grind 7–9 grams of coffee to a fine texture similar to table salt. A fine grind allows proper espresso extraction.
Dose and Distribute: Place ground coffee into the portafilter basket. Spread evenly so water flows consistently during brewing.
Tamp Evenly: Press the coffee firmly using a tamper. Keep the surface flat and compact to prevent uneven extraction.
Brew the Espresso: Lock the portafilter into the machine and start extraction immediately.
Serve Immediately: Drink espresso within 30 seconds after brewing for the best flavor and aroma.
